Asakusa Engei Hall: Early, Middle and Late September Programs
This September, Asakusa Engei Hall will once again hold its regular performances every day without a break, featuring a diverse lineup of rakugo, manzai and variety acts (iromono). The program changes every ten days: the early program (Kamiseki) runs from the 1st to the 10th, the middle program (Nakaseki) from the 11th to the 20th, and the late program (Shimoseki) from the 21st to the 30th, so the lineup of performers changes three times over the course of the month.
This means that even within the same month, you can see different performers and acts depending on when you visit. Regulars and first-time visitors to a yose theater alike are sure to find something fresh to discover.
Performances are held in two shows a day: the daytime show starts at 11:40, and the evening show starts at 16:40. You can choose either show to suit your schedule, whether on your way home from work or during free time on a day off.
From the subtle art of rakugo storytelling to the light, witty banter of manzai and the wide range of skills unique to variety acts, you can enjoy a richly varied entertainment experience in a single visit. This is especially recommended for those who want to spend a relaxed time laughing amid Asakusa's old-town atmosphere.
Checking the program schedule for the early, middle and late programs in advance and visiting on a day when your favorite performer appears is another way to enjoy the theater like a true yose aficionado.
