Sponsors Sought for Restoration of the Divine Messenger Statues

Published Jul 27, 2026

Asakusa Shrine is seeking sponsorship from worshippers and local residents at large as it moves forward with a project to restore the divine messenger statues on its grounds.

The statues have been exposed to wind and rain for many years and show signs of deterioration over time, which led to the planning of this restoration project. For Asakusa Shrine, which has walked alongside the town of Asakusa, passing on to future generations these statues, which hold value as cultural properties on the grounds, is considered an important undertaking.

Details on how to sponsor and the amounts are available at the shrine's amulet office (shuyojo) and on its official website. Support is being sought from many people who cherish Asakusa's history and culture, including parishioners (ujiko) and devotees of the shrine.

Progress on the restoration is expected to be announced from time to time, and once completed, worshippers will be able to see the statues in their renewed form.
