Hanayashiki "Free Admission When You Bring a Kumade" Campaign

In conjunction with the Tori-no-Ichi festival, an autumn tradition in Asakusa, Asakusa Hanayashiki will once again hold its popular "Free Admission When You Bring a Kumade" campaign this year.

Campaign Overview

• Dates: Two days only: Saturday, November 7 and Thursday, November 19, 2026
• Details: Bring a kumade (decorative bamboo rake) purchased at the Tori-no-Ichi festival at Asakusa Otori Shrine, and up to 2 people per kumade can enter the park for free

On these days, visitors who have finished their Tori-no-Ichi worship can be seen strolling through the park with kumade of all sizes in hand, surrounded by a lively and auspicious atmosphere unique to Asakusa. You can enjoy a Hanayashiki that is special to this time of year.

What Is Tori-no-Ichi?

This festival has continued since the Edo period to give thanks for a safe year and to pray for good fortune and business prosperity in the coming year. Ootori Shrine in Hanahata, Adachi-ku was called "Kami-no-Tori" (the first Tori), Shosen-ji Temple in Senju was called "Naka-no-Tori" (the middle Tori), and Asakusa Otori Shrine was called "Shimo-no-Tori" (the last Tori); during the Edo period, the festival was held at these three locations. In the Meiji era, the Tori-no-Ichi at Shosen-ji Temple ceased, and today it is carried on at Ootori Shrine in Hanahata and Asakusa Otori Shrine.
