The 19th Asakusa Lantern Festival

The annual "Asakusa Lantern Festival," announced by the Asakusa Tourist Federation, marks its 19th year this year. It runs for one week, from October 19 to 26, 2026, with many lanterns lit from sunset until 21:30 within the grounds of Asakusa Shrine and the surrounding area.

The Senso-ji and Asakusa Shrine area is enveloped in magical light at night, delighting worshippers and tourists in this annual autumn event. Lanterns may also carry messages from local residents and sponsoring organizations, making it an event that conveys the bonds of the local community.

It is also popular as an evening stroll route and is known as a photo spot. Because the event is held only during the limited hours from sunset until 21:30, it is a good idea to check the sunset time before you visit. We recommend enjoying it together with a visit to Senso-ji.
